Bardstown Bourbon Co.’s Discovery Series #1 Blends Four Kentucky Bourbons

Bardstown Bourbon Company (BBCo) has released Discovery Series #1, the first in its line of sourced blends of Kentucky bourbons.

BBCo boasts an expert staff of not only distillers and blenders, but chefs, bartenders, and sommeliers. The team blind-tasted 30 different blends before selecting their first Bardstown Discovery expression, bottled at 121.21 proof.

“Discovery Series #1 is a very limited release that continues to showcase our blending expertise,” says Bardstown Bourbon Company President and CEO, David Mandell. “The internal process we used to create the blend is as unique as the product itself.”

The full breakdown of percentages, including age and mash bill, is printed on the side of the bottle. Bardstown Discovery #1 is crafted around an almost 12-year rye recipe bourbon, with younger and older bourbons of similar recipes that add light, youthful spice as well as deeper oak. The breakdown is as follows –

  • 5 percent 13-year Kentucky Bourbon with a mash bill of 78 percent corn, 12 percent rye, and 10 percent malted barley.
  • 75 percent 11-years and 7 months Kentucky Bourbon with a mash bill of 74 percent corn, 18 percent rye, and 8 percent malted barley.
  • 10 percent 10-year Kentucky Bourbon with a mash bill of 75 percent corn, 13 percent rye, and 12 percent malted barley.
  • 10 percent 5-year Kentucky Bourbon with a mash bill of 78 percent corn, 12 percent rye, and 10 percent malted barley.

“With Discovery Series #1, we’ve produced a blend that can rival any product on the market,” says Master Distiller Steve Nally. “The final result is truly greater than the sum of its parts. We’ve taken four great Kentucky bourbons and crafted them into one spectacular bottle.”

This isn’t the only recent blend from the team at Bardstown. This year alone, they’ve launched the Bardstown Fusion Series, the first expressions to contain their own straight bourbon, as well as Phifer-Pavitt Reserve, a Cabernet barrel collaboration with a California winery.

Bardstown Bourbon Co. Discovery Series #1 is on shelves now in just five states (Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Florida, and California) for around $140.
